From room temperature to 2500℃, the mechanical strength of graphite electrode increases with the increase of temperature. At 2500°C, the mechanical strength is about 1-2 times that of room temperature.
The reason why the mechanical strength of graphite products increases with the increase of temperature can be explained as follows: 1. Graphite products do not produce local plastic deformation at low temperature, so even if a lower load is applied, it will cause stress concentration fracture.
However, when the temperature increases to a certain degree, due to the emergence of plastic state, local deformation is produced near the stress concentration point and stress is dispersed, so even if a larger load is applied, it will not cause fracture.
2. Due to the large coefficient of linear expansion of graphite crystals, anisotropy, after cooling at high temperature, the internal grain will generate a large stress, due to the value of internal stress superimposed by external forces, the strength of graphite at low temperature is low, but after heating to a certain temperature internal stress gradually reduced, so the mechanical strength increases with the temperature.
