Graphite rods are often used as electric heating elements in high-temperature vacuum furnaces. The maximum operating temperature can reach 3000°C. It is easy to oxidize at high temperatures. Except for vacuum, it can only be used in neutral or reducing atmospheres. Its thermal expansion coefficient is small, thermal conductivity is large, resistivity is (8~13)×10-6 Ω·m, processability is better than SiC, MoSi2 rod, high temperature resistance, extreme cold and extreme heat resistance, good price cheaper. Graphite block is a kind of artificial graphite, and artificial graphite is made by artificial heating of coke products. Generally, if it is purified to make high-purity or carbon fiber, the added value is high. It has higher thermal conductivity than steel, iron, lead and other metal materials. The thermal conductivity decreases with the increase of temperature. Even at extremely high temperatures, graphite also acts as an insulator.

Graphite conducts electricity because each carbon atom in graphite only forms three covalent bonds with other carbon atoms, and each carbon atom still retains a free electron to transfer charge. The lubrication performance of graphite depends on the scale size. The larger the scale, the smaller the friction coefficient and the better the lubrication performance.

Graphite can be divided into two categories: natural material graphite and artificial graphite. Naturally formed graphite comes from Chinese graphite deposits. Natural graphite can also be divided into flake graphite, earthy graphite and block graphite. The graphite obtained from natural mining contains more impurities, so it needs to be processed and used after reducing its impurity content. The main purpose of natural graphite is to produce refractory materials, brushes, flexible graphite products, lubricants, and lithium-ion battery anode materials. Some carbon products are sometimes added to a certain amount of natural graphite. Among the carbon company’s industrial enterprises, the production volume is most affected by various artificial graphite materials. Artificial graphite products generally use easily graphitized petroleum coke and pitch coke as raw materials, and undergo various ingredients, kneading, molding, roasting, and graphitization. It is made in a series of important processes such as mechanical design and processing, and the production development cycle time is as long as dozens of days.
